PSA is one of three polytechnics recognized with the status of Premier Polytechnic which was awarded on 25th February 2010. An important KPI for Premier Polytechnic is the setting up of a Centre of Excellence in Technology (CMET) for selected niche areas. Also in line with the agenda of transformation for polytechnic, PSA has taken the initiative to develop the COT for the field of medical electronics (CMET).
CMET is established with a mission of transforming CMET as the leader in technical & vocational education and training and it’s vision is to emerge as the centre of excellence and achieve the highest standard in Medical Electronics for the nation.
This is achieved through collaboration, research and development, publications and excellent teaching and learning. As part of PSA mission statement, CMET hopes to be a catalyst to contribute towards achieving the country’s goal of becoming a high-income nation and leader in Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

CMET’s strength is providing expert services for Biomedical Analyzers calibration and biomedical equipment maintenance. CMET successfully establishes the first ever biomedical calibration lab accredited to ISO 17025 within the country on the 7th April 2014.
To be certified with ISO/IEC 17025, accredited by Department of Standards Malaysia, Laboratory accreditation bodies use the ISO 17025 standard specifically to assess factors relevant to a laboratory’s ability to produce precise, accurate test and calibration data; including:
- Traceability of measurements and calibrations to national standards
- Technical competence of staff
- Maintenance of test equipment
- Quality assurance of test and calibration data
- Validity and appropriateness of test methods
- handling and transportation of test items appropriately and
- maintaining the Quality of the test environment and sampling
By having the certification it proves that the staffs have sound technical knowledge and skills to carry out calibration jobs using well maintain equipment using valid and appropriate test methods. This activities help staffs involved to enhance their knowledge and skills in order to be accredited.
